Nick Kelly started playing the guitar in late December of 2022. He was on a camping trip with his friends and one of his buddies was singing and playing the guitar. After that trip, Nick bought a Yamaha acoustic guitar and began practicing right away. He never thought he could learn to play the guitar, but he admired people who could play. Nick thought “Can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” but he got motivated and realized it’s not as hard as it seems.
Nick’s practicing process starts when he likes a song typically in the country genre. He will go on YouTube and watch guitar tutorials explaining how to play a song. Some of his favorite guitar YouTubers to learn from are Marty Schwartz and GuitarZero2Hero. After watching a video, he will learn the chords, rhythm pattern, and the cadence of the vocals as he continues to perfect the song. Nick has only been playing for 6 months and he keeps developing because of the amount of time he practices.
Kelly’s favorite style of music is country because as a child he grew up listening to George Strait. For a while he grew out of country but as of recently, he started listening to it again to get back to his “roots.” Nick has been listening to Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, and Whiskey Myers as of late. All the artists have motivated Nick to play songs of theirs and he says he’s able to figure out the songs quickly. “You are never too old to start something new.
